The Rafflesia Arnoldi

Rafflesia Arnoldi is the largest flower in the world known, found in several area in Bengkulu forest. It named after the name of  Bengcoolen/ Bengkulu Lieutenant Governor of the British Administration; Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, and a botanist Joseph Arnold; one who found the largest flower in Bengkulu forest on the Bukit Barisan mountain slope.

The diameter of flower is about 1 M when it full-bloom, the flower is so unique because it has no leaves, visible root, and no stem. It takes up to 8 months to mature, and stay-in bloom about 15 days, can seen from September to December. Apparently Rafflesia Arnoldi flower appear periodic about 5 years or even more. And at Curup, Rejang Lebong, one can see a monument of Rafflesia Arnoldi Flower; a symblic of Bengkulu,  The Land Of Rafflesia, a beutiful natural tourism to visit. /ika
